Streusel Caramel Bars

Well, my first day to sleep in a long while and what starts at 7AM???? Jackhammering out on my street (PECO!!!)...sooooo I decided to get up and make something for tonight's stitching! A new recipe and so far very yumalicious!
STREUSEL CARAMEL BARS

2 cups unsifted flour
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks ) room temp butter or margarine
3/4 cup chopped nuts
24 caramels, unwrapped ( I used caramel chips-1 cup)
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)

Preheat oven to 350. In large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar and egg:; cut in 1/2 cup of the butter until crumbly. Stir in nuts.

Reserve 2 cups of the crumb mixture; press remainder firmly on bottom of greased 13x9 inch baking pan. Bake 12 mins.

Meanwhile in saucepan, over low heat, melt caramels with remaining butter and sweetened condensed milk. Stir constantly. Pour over prepared crust. Top with reserved crumb mixture.

Bake 15-18 mins until edges are bubbly and topping is golden. Cool. Cut into bars. Store loosely covered at room temp.

I'll let you know (or if you're coming you can try them yourself!) how they turn out-hope to see you tonight!! Look for more new items later today!! Molly
